Hit-and-run Crash on Highway 32
A Toyota driven by Richard Swerda was traveling eastbound on Highway 32. The car allegedly drifted left into the westbound lane in front of a Ford occupied by the five young people, just west of Forest Ranch Road. George Jarrell, 21, of Oroville, attempted to avoid the crash by turning his Ford to the left, but at the same time the Toyota reportedly turned to the right with both vehicles crashing head-on.
Richard Swerda attempted to flee the scene but was later arrested by CHP. He faces charges of felony hit-and-run, causing injury.
Meanwhile, paramedics responded to the scene and transported six people to Enloe Medical Center including Jarrell, Riggins, Monday and Swerda to hospitals with minor to major injuries.
Investigators believe that driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is a factor in the collision.
