Driver Killed in Selma Crash Identified
SELMA, Calif. (June 8, 2022) – Richard Wilkin, 71, of Selma, died, and two others suffered injuries, in a traffic accident at DeWolf Avenue and Floral Avenue.
The Fresno County Sheriff Coroner identified the Selma man.
The fatal crash involved two vehicles, a Chevrolet Suburban and a Chevrolet Silverado.
A 71-year-old male was driving a Chevrolet Suburban westbound on Floral approaching the intersection with DeWolf Avenue. An adult male
was driving a Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Floral Avenue, also approaching the intersection with DeWolf Avenue.
Richard Wilkin was driving the Suburban westbound on Floral Avenue and approaching the intersection with DeWolf Avenue. A man driving the Silverado was heading in the opposite direction on Floral Avenue.
Authorities say the driver in the Suburban turned left in front of the pickup truck and the two vehicles collided.
Two adult males in the pickup truck suffered major, life-threatening injuries in the crash and were pulled from the burning vehicle by passersby.
Paramedics responded to the scene just after 8:10 p.m. Despite life-saving measures to Richard Wilkin, he died at the scene.
Meanwhile, the two others were taken by ambulance to the hospital for further treatment and evaluation.
Detectives handling the case continue to investigate the cause of the collision.
