Los Angeles County coroner’s office identified the deceased as 60-year-old Rick Artes and 48-year-old Mike Hollinrake. Artes was from La Habra while Hollinrake was reportedly homeless.
As per the reports, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Malibu-Lost Hills Station said a gray Mercury minivan was going west on Pacific Coast Highway at an alleged high rate of speed when its driver tried to pass another vehicle.

The motorist lost control of the minivan and crossed over the center divider where the Mercury collided head-on with a red Dodge Ram truck. The accident was reported at Trancas Canyon Road around 12:07 p.m.
Deputies affirmed that the operators of both vehicles died at the scene. A passenger in the pickup truck was flown to a hospital and was listed in stable condition.
Meanwhile, a bicyclist who was hit by a wheel from the Dodge was also hospitalized with minor injuries. The names of the wounded patients were not disclosed.
California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert, forcing all southbound lanes and one northbound lane on on the highway to shut down. The incident remains under investigation.
