OAKLAND, Calif. (July 19, 2023) — Ricky Bryant, 62, of Oakland, died July 12 in a bicycle accident at 29th Avenue and International Boulevard in Oakland.
A driver in a stolen car reportedly struck him around 9:30 a.m. in the Fruitvale district, according to East Bay Times.
The driver of the stolen Hyundai Elantra reportedly fled the scene of the collision before police arrived, according to East Bay Times.
The stolen vehicle was traveling eastbound on International Boulevard when it collided with an eastbound van, but no one was hurt in that collision, the report said.
However, the impact caused the Hyundai driver to lose control and spin out. That’s when it hit the pedestrian riding a bicycle who was traveling westbound on International Blvd., at the intersection with 29th Avenue, the report said.
Bryant was thrown off his bicycle into the roadway and paramedics transported him to a hospital, but he later died from his injuries.
The suspect driving the Hyundai fled from the scene on foot. However, police believe the suspect was bleeding from his face after the crash.
Witnesses or anyone with information about the suspect may contact Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland. There is an offer of up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the driver. Police can be reached at 510-777-8570 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
