The two young men were standing with the driver of an overturned car when they were struck by a passing motorist and thrown into the air.
The fatal crash took place about 2 a.m. Thursday. The two victims who died were among four passengers who were traveling in a Honda when it crashed with the Toyota. The Toyota overturned in the northbound lanes of Highway 99 near Mack Road, CHP officials said.
The overturned vehicle came to rest in the far left lane when the two men got out of the Honda and went to help the driver. All three of them were standing together in front of the Toyota when they were struck by the Chevrolet Tahoe SUV. The driver of the Toyota, who was also hit, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
