Rico Burley, April Wigand Fatal Fallbrook Crash
FALLBROOK (February 19, 2020) –Rico Burley, 42, of Fallbrook, and his passenger, April Dawn Wigand, 39, of Oceanside, both died Sunday in a solo-vehicle collision on Old Highway 395 in Fallbrook.
The collision took place about 2:08 p.m. on February 16th.
The San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office reported that the two were traveling in a 2005 Ford Mustang driven by Burley.
They were traveling southbound on the two-lane highway when Burley attempted to pass slower-moving vehicles.
Burley reportedly saw the oncoming traffic and veered back into the southbound lane.
At that point, Burley lost control of the vehicle, went off the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle wound up in a creek bed at the bottom of the embankment.
During the crash, both Burley and Wigand were ejected from their vehicle. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
The collision remains under investigation.
