Rita Ahwal Killed in Car Accident in Antioch on Highway 4
ANTIOCH (May 10, 2016)- According to the Mercury News, Rita Ahwal, 49, of Oakley, has been identified as the victim fatally injured in a car accident on Highway 4 Monday evening.
The deadly collision involved two vehicles including a white BMW sedan and a gray Acura sedan being driven by 49-year-old Rita Ahwal.
The crash which occurred at 5:46 p.m. was triggered by the BMW driver who struck the back of the Acura causing Rita Ahwal’s vehicle to veer across several lanes to the right shoulder.
The Oakley woman was knocked unconscious from the impact. Paramedics quickly responded to the scene and transported her to Sutter Delta Med Center, where Ahwal did not survive her injuries and was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Per the Mercury News, the BMW driver was moderately injured and taken to Kaiser Permanente in Antioch.
At this time, neither drugs nor alcohol seems to have been involved in this incident as authorities continue their investigation.
