RIVERSIDE, California (October 15, 2015) — A semi-tractor trailer truck crashed into the center divider and caused a multi-vehicle crash on the eastbound State Route 91 Riverside Freeway, just west of Central Avenue, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The crash took place about 12:35 p.m. this morning. The truck crash caused as many as eight other motorists to collide including a black Chevrolet Suburban SUV, a gray Honda Civic hatchback, a white Buick and a white sedan.
Police reported that four of the vehicles were “destroyed” in the wreck. The Riverside County Fire Department sent paramedics to help those injured and rescue at least one person who was trapped in a vehicle.
The crash was blocking all lanes and some debris went over into opposing traffic lanes on the other side of the freeway.
The fire department ordered the freeway to be closed down due to so many vehicles being involved and blocking the entire eastbound 91 Freeway.
A full investigation into what led to the crash is underway by police.
