RIVERSIDE, California (December 29, 2014) – Israel Cerda Contreras, 68, of Riverside was killed in Saturday afternoon when he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle in front of 3300 Central Avenue, near the Olivewood Cemetery, according to a press release by the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner.
The fatal bicycle accident was reported at 12:11 p.m. Riverside Police officers and paramedics responded to the location of the crash to assist the injured bicyclist, but he died of his injuries at the scene about 12:18 p.m., the report said.
Police closed down the street for several hours to conduct an investigation into the fatal crash to determine liability.
Witnesses told police Contreras was having difficulty riding his bike uphill and may have veered to the left in front of the driver who hit him, according to a report by the Riverside Press Enterprise.
