The accident was reported shortly after 1:30 p.m., north of Morongo Road.
As per the article, a dispatch by California Highway Patrol affirmed that two SUVs collided on Malki Road. One vehicle then caught fire, landing on top of the other car.
A statement online released by Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire said an occupant was extricated after being pinned inside the SUV which was underneath the burning vehicle.
A total of two patients were transported to the hospital to be treated for major injuries. Their names and condition at this time were not disclosed.
Authorities will continue to investigate the cause of the incident to determine liability.
