RIVERSIDE, California (April 27, 2015) — David Rivas, Jr., 19, of Riverside was killed and his passenger critically injured Saturday night when the teenager lost control of his car and crashed into a tree on Overlook Parkway near Golden Star Avenue, according to a press release by the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner.

About 8:50 p.m., Rivas and his passenger 19-year-old Jorge Talavera were traveling in his 2003 Lexus sedan on Overlook Parkway when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle during a curve in the roadway and veered into a tree.

The Notre Dame High School student died at the scene of the crash. His passenger, a recent graduate of King High School, was critically injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment, the Press Enterprise reported.

Police are asking anyone with more information about the collision to contact Detective Rick Prince at 951-826-8722.

“This is a tragedy for the family of this young man,” said Attorney James Johnson. “My prayers are with them as well as the family of the young man who is fighting for his life. Hopefully he will be able to pull through this.”
