Riverside Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on 60 Freeway, July 15

1 Killed, 2 Seriously Injured in Head-On Crash on 60 Freeway

RIVERSIDE (July 15, 2018) – An alleged wrong-way crash killed one person and seriously injured two others on the 60 Freeway early Sunday morning, according to The Press Enterprise and KTLA.

California Highway Patrol initially received calls about a female motorist who was traveling west in a red Ford Mustang in the eastbound lanes of the 60 freeway near Pigeon Pass Road at 3:31 a.m. She allegedly drove more than 7 miles in the wrong direction.

A few moments later, the woman then collided head-on with a black Dodge van. The collision took place near Main Street.

CHP affirmed that the 23-year-old passenger in the Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene. The wrong-way driver and the operator of the Caravan, apparently in their early 20s, were both transported to the hospital with major injuries.

The names of the deceased and injured parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, all lanes of the eastbound freeway were forced to shut down following the wreck and were reopened at about 7:13 a.m.

The incident remains under investigation.

Wrongful Death and Personal Injury Lawyer

Based on the reports, a female motorist is accused of driving the wrong way and ultimately causing a traffic collision that led to the death and injuries of the other innocent parties involved. Authorities will continue to investigate and determine how fast the woman was going, whether or not alcohol or drugs were also involved, whether or not there was a mechanical issue with the Ford Mustang, and whether or not she was distracted or reckless at time of the crash.

In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, the surviving family of the deceased may possess the right to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit pending the results of the investigation. The injured and held not liable for the crash may also be granted the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit against the at-fault party.

Victims will be entitled to a recompense for the funeral costs, hospital bills, lost income, pain and suffering and loss of love and companionship.
