The accident was reported at 2:07 p.m. on Van Buren Boulevard, just north of Lincoln Street.
As per the article, police said a 93-year-old Betty Leppert was driving a gray Nissan Sentra south when she turned left toward the parking lot of the Albertson’s shopping center.
The Nissan then went directly into the path of a red Mazda 6 which was headed north.
A passenger in the Sentra, 90-year-old Irma Harper, was pronounced dead at the scene. Leppert was transported to Riverside Community Hospital where she died.
Both women were from Riverside.
Meanwhile, the 35-year-old Riverside male motorist in the Mazda was also hospitalized and released.
The investigation is ongoing.
