Pedestrian Critically Injured in Riverside Crash at Garfield and Jackson Streets
RIVERSIDE, CA (October 10, 2021) – A juvenile pedestrian was critically injured after a crash at Garfield Street and Jackson Street in Riverside.
According to an article published by My News LA, the accident took place on Saturday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck shortly before 3:45 p.m.
The incident happened on October 9 when a Mercedes SUV was going north on Jackson Street, approaching Garfield Street, in Riverside.
At the same time, a Chevrolet Cruze was traveling west on Garfield. Police said the driver of the Mercedes ran a red light for an unknown reason.
Driver Runs Red Light, Hits Juvenile
The Mercedes then slammed into the Chevrolet in the intersection. In the process, the SUV struck a juvenile pedestrian crossing Jackson Street in the crosswalk.
The child ended up thrown into a Toyota Camry that was stopped at the red light for southbound Jackson. The victim sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene. They rushed the young patient to the Loma Linda University Medical Center and listed them in critical condition.
Meanwhile, police did not mention if the motorists ended up hurt or if they stopped following the incident. Officers forced the area of Garfield and Jackson streets to shut down after the collision.
The Riverside pedestrian crash is still under investigation.
