RIVERSIDE, California (Wednesday, August 5, 2015) – Yesterday afternoon Bobby Welch, 81, of Riverside appeared to ignore the warning bells and stepped in front of a freight train.
He died instantly. The man had been walking south on Brockton Avenue with his head lowered when he crossed the tracks, despite the lowered traffic arms, flashing lights, and ringing bells. The train came to a full stop, tying up traffic and the train line. The emergency response team pronounced Welch dead at the scene; nothing could be done for him.
The accident occurred at 12:41 p.m., according to the Riverside Coroner’s report and The Press Enterprise. Lieutenant Gary Leach assures that the Riverside Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
