RIVERSIDE, California (December 15, 2015) –– A motorcyclist suffered major injuries Monday afternoon in a crash on the westbound 91 Freeway with a pickup truck, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The crash was reported at 3:50 p.m. when the rider and a pickup crashed in the HOV lane and the rider landed in the fast lane where he or she slid underneath a van, police said.
The bike was engulfed in flames and also set off a fire in the van. Police, firefighters and paramedics all responded to help those involved. The injured motorcycle rider was transported to Riverside Community Hospital to be treated for major injuries. It appears there were no other reported injuries.
The crash is under investigation by police to determine liability.
“Motorcyclists are at increased risk of injury compared to other motorists,” said Attorney James Johnson. “They also suffer more serious injuries and it is important they get adequate care as well as compensation to pay for it.”
