RIVERSIDE, California (Monday, August 3, 2015) – Marvin Villegas, 18, of Riverside was killed in a collision between his motorcycle and a pickup truck on the eastbound State Route Highway 60, just east of Pyrite Street, a report by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.
The Riverside Fire Department dubbed this the Pyrite Incident, according to their report. The collision, which sparked a fierce fire, required one engine with 10 firefighters, one helicopter and one ambulance.
The wreckage from the accident originally only blocked the third and fourth lanes of eastbound Highway 60. However as the fire grew the eastbound side of the highway needed to be shut down completely. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. No other parties were injured.
The accident occurred at 4:18 p.m., according to a California Highway Patrol report. The roadway was cleared, with the vehicles kept for evidence. An investigation by the Riverside CHP station as to what caused the accident is underway.
