UPDATE: Riverside Coroner ID’s Woman as Erika Cuevas, 31, of San Jacinto, Calif.
MORENO VALLEY, California (June 9, 2014) — A 31-year-old San Jacinto woman is dead and two people suffered major and minor injuries early Monday morning in a traffic accident involving as many as five drivers on the eastbound State Route 60 Freeway just east of Moreno Beach Drive, according to a dispatch by the California Highway Patrol.
About 1:55 a.m., CHP officers responded to the call blocking the Nos. 2 and 3 lanes involving a black pickup truck and a grey sedan that was subsequently hit by a third driver. Riverside County Fire sent 11 firefighters to the scene, some who cut and pulled out a woman who was trapped in a grey Kia Forte that was involved in the crash, but she died at the scene of the Highway 60 accident.
Two other people were taken by ground ambulance to nearby hospitals for major and minor injuries, CAL FIRE/Riverside Fire Department said in a press release.
The eastbound on ramp at Moreno Beach was closed down during the rescue.
A black Huyndai Santa Fe was held for evidence by police. Three tow trucks were required for disabled vehicles.
“Police are conducting a full investigation into this fatal crash,” said Attorney James Johnson. “My condolences go out to the family of Erika Cuevas as they learn of her sudden death and try to piece together what happened here this morning.”
