Woman Injured; Loses Unborn Baby in Head-on Marysville Crash on Hammonton Smartville Road
MARYSVILLE, Calif. (Feb. 24, 2021) — An unborn baby died and the mother, Robbi Megazzi, was injured in a crash with a suspected drugged driver on Hammonton Smartville Road in Marysville.
Both Robbi Megazzi, 32, of Marysville, and Anthony Smith, 44, of Marysville, were injured in the crash.
The head-on collision happened Tuesday, Feb. 23rd on Hammonton Smartville Road, just east of Happy Way, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Anthony Smith was driving eastbound in his 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe while allegedly under the influence of drugs, police said.
The driver reportedly veered into the westbound lane and crashed head-on with a 2005 Toyota 4Runner SUV driven by Robbi Megazzi.
Pregnant Mother Robbi Megazzi Hospitalized
Paramedics responded and rushed both drivers to the hospital. Robbi Megazzi, who was pregnant, lost her unborn child at the hospital. The baby was pronounced dead at Rideout Medical Center while the mother was treated for internal bleeding in her chest due to the crash.
Meanwhile, Smith suffered a fractured right leg. Anthony Smith was arrested by CHP for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
Further investigation into the tragic auto accident is ongoing.
