Selma Man Killed, DUI Suspect Arrested
SELMA, Calif. (Sept. 25, 2024) – Robert Leeper of Selma died Friday in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident involving a suspected DUI driver on Floral Avenue and Wright Street in Selma.
It happened at the Selma intersection around 8:15 p.m. on Sept. 20th, according to the Selma Police Department.
Police found the injured man down in the roadway, but the driver who hit him did not stop. The victim, Robert Leeper, later died from his injuries.
Investigators began working to locate the driver involved and were able to find the suspect shortly after the crash, Your Central Valley News reports.
Roberto Ramos, a 39-year-old Selma Public Works employee, was arrested on multiple charges including gross vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run resulting in death, and driving under the influence. He was booked into the Fresno County Jail.
Authorities confirmed the man was not working at the time of the collision. Also, he was driving his personal vehicle during the pedestrian accident.
The case remains under investigation.
