Pedestrian Struck, Killed in Crash on South Riverside Avenue
RIALTO, Calif. (June 21, 2023) — Roberto Mojo-Sanchez, 50, of Colton, was arrested on hit-and-run charges for a fatal pedestrian accident in Rialto.
The deadly crash occurred around 11:15 p.m. on June 12 in the 2500 block of South Riverside Avenue, according to the Rialto Police Department.
Police arrested the suspect two days later, the San Bernardino Sun reports. Police received a tip from someone in the community that helped them identify Roberto Mojo-Sanchez as the driver who fled. The Colton man was taken into custody in the City of Riverside.
Investigators say the suspect was traveling northbound in a red 2006 Toyota Solara. The car was in the No. 1 lane of Riverside Avenue driving towards Santa Ana Avenue when it struck the pedestrian who was walking in traffic lanes.
The victim went down in the roadway and was hit by other vehicles.
Police officers arrived on scene just minutes later and located the severely injured pedestrian, but the driver of the vehicle had fled without stopping to help the person. Rialto Fire Department pronounced the unidentified pedestrian deceased at the scene.
The case remains under investigation.
