Passenger Killed in Pinole Crash is Identified
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, Calif. (Nov. 15, 2021) — Roger Valdez Jr., 37, of San Francisco, died Monday in a Pinole crash on the Interstate 80 Freeway at Pinole Valley Road.
The crash happened amid heavy fog about 12:04 a.m. on Nov. 15th, according to the California Highway Patrol. The driver in a gray Hyundai Genesis reportedly crashed into the back of a Saturn sedan killing the San Francisco man. The Saturn suffered major rear-end damage in the collision. Authorities mentioned the Hyundai was traveling too fast based on traffic conditions.
Roger Valdez Jr. was traveling in the Hyundai as a passenger on the right side of the back seat. The driver and a second passenger survived with minor injuries.
Meanwhile, two people in the Hyundai became trapped in the wreckage. Police say they were not injured.
Also, a witness saw one person running from the crash site. However, foggy conditions made it difficult for them to provide a description.
Authorities requested the coroner’s van respond at 12:40 a.m. Two trucks removed damaged vehicles and cleared debris scattered in traffic lanes.
There are no further details about the fatal Pinole crash.
