Rolando Alvarenga-Aguilar, 45, ID’d as Suspect in Fresno DUI Hit-and-Run Crash
FRESNO, CA (October 19, 2021) – Police detained Rolando Alvarenga-Aguilar after a fatal DUI hit-and-run crash in Fresno earlier this month.
Officers determined the 45-year-old Fresno man was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck took place on October 9.
The incident began when Rolando Enrique Alvarenga-Aguilar was driving a van in the area of Maple and Belmont avenues in Fresno.
Police said he then accelerated and lost control of the vehicle. In the process, he crashed into a Tacos El Bello food truck parked near the intersection at the time.
The van struck 60-year-old Fresno resident Sabas Ruiz Galaviz who was eating at a table near the food truck. A woman sitting outside the business jumped of the way when she saw the drunk driver.

Sabas Ruiz Galaviz sustained significant head trauma as a result of the collision. Paramedics rushed the him to the Fresno Community Regional Medical Center, where he died.
Medical personnel treated the woman for the scrapes and bruises she sustained in the incident. The Fresno Bee and FOX 26 News wrote that the wreck occurred at around 6:55 p.m.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that Rolando Alvarenga-Aguilar abandoned the van and fled on foot. They soon found and arrested him for DUI and hit-and-run.
He faces eight charges including murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. The Fresno crash is still under investigation.
