Bicycle Rider, 82, Killed in Rolando Hit-and-Run Crash on College Avenue
SAN DIEGO, CA (August 25, 2022) – A hit-and-run crash killed a bicycle rider on College Avenue in the Rolando neighborhood of San Diego.
According to an article published by the San Diego Union-Tribune, the tragic accident took place on Thursday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck at about 2:55 p.m.
The incident happened when an 82-year-old man was riding his bicycle in the bike lane of College Avenue in the Rolando area. At the same time, a Cadillac SRX was going north.
San Diego police said the SUV then made an unsafe movement to the right. In the process, the car struck the bicyclist between El Cajon Boulevard and University Avenue.
Driver Hits Woman, Flees Scene
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found the victim down on the ground. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel rushed the cyclist to a hospital, where he died. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the 52-year-old woman driving the Cadillac did not stop to render aid and fled the scene. She returned to the site after an hour.
Officers soon arrested the driver on suspicion of a felony hit-and-run charge. They forced a stretch of College Avenue to shut down for a time following the incident.
The Rolando hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
