1 Killed, 5 Injured in Otay Mesa Crash on State Route 905
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (January 9, 2020) – Rolando Mora Labandelo, 21, of San Ysidro, died Tuesday night in a traffic collision on State Route 905 in Otay Mesa.
The young man was driving a Chrysler 300 carrying a group of teenagers ages 15 to 19 years old when the vehicle spun out of control and crashed into a guardrail about 9:15 p.m., according to reports by San Diego Union-Tribune and CBS San Diego. The young people were driving home from an indoor trampoline park.
The solo-vehicle collision took place on the westbound side of SR-905, near Beyer Boulevard in Otay Mesa, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Rolando Labandelo and a passenger were both ejected during the crash. The San Diego Medical Examiner reported that Labandelo died at the scene.
One of the passengers, identified by ABC 10 News as Gustavo, 18, suffered two broken legs and a fractured pelvis, according to his brother Ivan Nares.
Two other people were trapped in the wreckage, but were freed by arriving emergency personnel from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
Three people who were in the vehicle were transported to UC San Diego Medical Center, two others were taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital with unspecified injuries.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
