1 Killed; 1 Arrested Pomona Car Accident

Rolando Pinto-Mendez Fatal Pomona Crash San Antonio Ave, Philadelphia Street POMONA, Calif. (February 3, 2021) – Rolando Pinto-Mendez, 26, of Pomona, died Wednesday in a collision with a driver who was fleeing police at San Antonio Avenue and Philadelphia Street.

The collision happened about 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3rd, according to the Pomona Police Department.

Eli Richard Machado Lopez, 22, of Pomona, is facing a possible murder charge after he crashed into a vehicle occupied by Pinto-Mendez. He subsequently fled the crash scene, but was apprehended by police.

Police tried to pull over Lopez for a vehicle code violation in a traffic stop at San Antonio Avenue and Ninth Street. However, he failed to stop and fled with a patrol car pursing him until he crashed into the other man’s vehicle. The victim, Rolando Pinto-Mendez died at the scene.

Finally, police continue to investigate the traffic accident.
