Rollover Crash on I-5 Freeway, Stockdale Highway 58 in Bakersfield

Head-on Crash on Southbound Interstate 5, Near Stockdale Highway

KERN COUNTY, Calif., (Oct. 12, 2026) — A major injury rollover collision occurred late Sunday night on the southbound Interstate 5 Freeway, just north of Stockdale Highway (SR-58) in the west Bakersfield area south of Buttonwillow.

Emergency responders were alerted to the scene on Oct. 11th at approximately 11:48 p.m. The California Highway Patrol reported a single vehicle reportedly swerved to avoid an object and subsequently overturned, landing on its roof on the right-hand side of the freeway. Witnesses described the vehicle as a red off-road model that had swerved before the crash.

Two individuals were ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Paramedics arrived promptly, providing immediate aid and transporting the injured parties to a local hospital for further treatment. The extent of their injuries remains undisclosed at this time.

A semi-truck had also stopped on the right-hand side of the road near the incident area, although it was not directly involved in the crash. Additionally, Castro Towing and L.E.O. Towing were summoned to assist in clearing the area.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers are actively investigating the circumstances that led to this collision. Authorities are seeking any additional witnesses who might have information about the events leading up to the accident.
