Postal Worker Hit and Injured by Vehicle on Highland Avenue
NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (Oct. 10, 2019) – Romulo Ruiz has been identified as the US Postal Office worker who was seriously hurt when he was struck by a vehicle on Highland Avenue while working in the back of his postal truck, the CBS News reported.
The incident took place on Sept. 12th in National City. A man suffered a seizure while driving in the 2900 block of Highland Avenue and his vehicle crashed into the back of the USPS mail truck where Ruiz was standing. Officials mentioned the USPS worker was in the back of the truck retrieving mail at the time of the collision.
The postal worker was pinned underneath the truck with the wheels turning on Ruiz until witnesses stopped the car.
Paramedics transported the injured man to UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest. Ruiz underwent surgery to place brackets inside his legs rather than have them placed on the outside, according to the San Diego Union Tribune. While it’s going to be a tough recovery for Ruiz, it was fortunate that doctors were able to save both of his legs.
The elderly man driving the vehicle was also taken to UC San Diego Medical Center for treatment.
A Go Fund Me Page was established to help Ruiz with medical costs and lost wages.
