Ronal Merdio Villatoro, 33, Killed in South Los Angeles Hit-and-Run Crash
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (February 27, 2021) – A hit-and-run crash killed Ronal Merdio Villatoro in South Los Angeles.
The 33-year-old man died following the accident on Wednesday afternoon, February 24, at the intersection of 88th Place and Main Street.
The incident began when a Ford pickup truck was traveling at a high rate of speed west on East 88th Place. Simultaneously, a Toyota Camry was traveling north on Main Street.
Police said the Toyota ran the red light and slammed into the Ford. The pickup then struck Ronal Merdio Villatoro who was crossing northbound on Main Street.
The pedestrian was walking in a marked crosswalk at the time. Firefighters along with the paramedics responded and found him left lying on the ground as a result of the collision.
Pedestrian Hit by Car at 88th Place and Main Street
Family members created a GoFundMe page to help cover the funeral expenses of Ronal Merdio Villatoro. Meanwhile, police affirmed that three men abandoned the truck and ran away.
One man was seen with a DeWalt toolbox and wearing a yellow shirt and jeans. Another was in a green vest and fleeing toward an alley on Broadway toward 9oth Street.
The operator of the Camry stopped and stayed at the site. Officials forced 88th Place and Main Street to close following the South Los Angeles crash.
