Ronald Rodarte, 39, ID’d as Suspect in Chico DUI Crash at Highway 99 and Esplanade
CHICO, CA (March 31, 2022) – Authorities detained Ronald Rodarte after a DUI crash at Highway 99 and Esplanade in Chico.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 39-year-old man was under the influence of alcohol when the collision took place on Wednesday.
The incident began when Ronald Rodarte was driving a Hyundai Elantra north on Esplanade, approaching Highway 99 in Chico. At the same time, a Ford Taurus was going south the highway.
CHP said Ronald Rodarte came to a stop at the stop sign in the intersection. He then did not yield to the right-of-way and pulled out to turn left directly in front of the Ford.
2 Victims Injured in Wreck
In the process, the Taurus broadsided his car. The Ford spun out of control upon impact while the Hyundai struck a chain-link fence nearby.
Ronald Rodarte sustained major injuries as a result of the crash. The driver of the Taurus, 63-year-old Randall Pockrus, suffered moderate injuries following the wreck.
The passenger in the Ford, 67-year-old Janica Clyde, survived with minor wounds. Paramedics took all three patients to the hospital for treatment.
The Action News Now wrote that the accident occurred on March 30 at about 2:30 p.m. Meanwhile, CHP soon arrested Ronald Rodarte for DUI. The Chico DUI crash is still under investigation.
