Roosevelt Kairy Hit by Car on Highway 101; Vernon Gee Arrested
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO (July 18, 2017) – A pedestrian was killed in a suspected hit-and-run accident on Highway 101 early Monday morning, according to San Francisco Examiner.
The accident was reported at 3:12 a.m. on southbound Highway 101 near Grand Avenue.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said 69-year-old Roosevelt Kairy was struck by a vehicle on the highway. The South San Francisco man was found dead in the area of the collision while the car which hit him fled.
CHP affirmed that the alleged driver involved, 62-year-old Vernon Gee, was giving a friend a ride home when he collided with the victim. He reportedly took his friend home and eventually contacted the authorities to report he possibly hit a pedestrian.
Gee, of San Francisco, was later arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that Kairy suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and had walked away from his home.
The incident prompted all southbound lanes to shut down on Highway 101 as a Sig-alert was issued at 3:59 a.m. All lanes reopened after two hours.
