2 Killed San Jose DUI Crash Highway 101 Connector to 280 Freeway
SAN JOSE (December 1, 2019) – Rosa Garza, 61, and Francisco Garza, 34, both of San Jose, died in a collision with a suspected DUI driver on Highway 101.
Five other people involved in the crash were hospitalized early Sunday morning. The crash took place on the northbound Highway 101 connector to Interstate 280, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Esteban Aguilar Jimenez, 21, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after the deadly collision. He is also facing charges of gross vehicular manslaughter.
Police investigating the crash stated that Jimenez was speeding in a Dodge Charger when he attempted to overtake a Nissan Rogue the victims were traveling in, but instead he crashed into the car about 4:10 a.m.
Upon impact, the Nissan veered out of control across the transition road and crashed into a guardrail. Rosa Garza, who was in the Nissan, died at the scene and Francisco Garza, who was in the same vehicle, died at Regional Medical Center of San Jose at 5:05 a.m. A third person from the Nissan was taken to the same hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.
Four others suffered moderate and major injuries. They were taken to Valley Medical Center.
