3 Killed in Highway 1 Accident Identified
LOMPOC VALLEY, Calif. (June 7, 2023) — Rosalva Chavez Cortez, 18, is the youngest of three people killed in a crash Tuesday on Highway 1 in Lompoc Valley.
Adelina Cortez Olea, 48, and Zeferino Chavez Martinez, 47, also died in the head-on traffic accident. All three people were from Santa Maria, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
The collision between a Kia sedan and a Chevrolet pickup truck occurred around 6 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6th, Noozhawk said.
2 Injured in Head-on Crash on Highway 1
Lompoc residents, Isidro Galvez, 52, and passenger Erid Ortega, 19, were traveling northbound in the pickup truck when the southbound Kia veered into its path and collided.
Firefighters and paramedics from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department along with California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene on the northbound Highway 1, just south of Constellation Road.
All three occupants from the Kia died in the crash. The relationship between Rosalva Chavez Cortez and the other two occupants in the Kia is unknown at this time.
Meanwhile, the two occupants from the pickup truck suffered minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center.
Authorities closed down Highway 1 for roughly two hours to conduct an investigation.
Police do not suspect alcohol was a factor in the collision.
