ROSAMOND, California (February 9, 2017) – A fatal suspected DUI crash took place on northbound Sierra Highway Wednesday afternoon, according to The Antelope Valley times.
The accident involving two vehicles occurred around 3:40 p.m., north of Patterson Road.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said 40-year-old Tyree Anthony Nelson was driving a 999 Pontiac Grand Prix north on Sierra Highway when he allowed his car to veer into the opposing lane of traffic. He was traveling at approximately 65 to 70 mph at the time.
The Pontiac collided head-on with a 1982 Ford F-750 Dump Truck driven by a 50-year-old Mojave man.
CHP said a 5-year-old Palmdale girl, who was not restrained in the car, died at the scene. Nelson was seriously hurt and flown to Antelope Valley Hospital while his a 41-year-old female passenger was also hospitalized with minor injuries.
The dump truck driver sustained a laceration to his head and was taken to the same hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile Nelson was determined to be driving under the influence of drugs when the wreck happened. The Palmdale man was then arrested.
