Rosario Salinas, 41, Killed in Head-on Palmdale Crash
PALMDALE, California (August 2, 2017) — Rosario Salinas was killed and a man was hurt in a fiery, two-vehicle collision Tuesday afternoon at 50th Street East and Columbia Way, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal crash took place about 2:30 p.m. yesterday. The 41-year-old victim was a passenger in an 2006 Audi A4 that was struck head-on by a 2008 Honda Accord whose driver went into oncoming traffic as they were attempting to pass another vehicle.
Salinas, who is from Llano, died of her injuries in the crash. The vehicles caught on fire after the crash and trapped a person inside.
Police say the 27-year-old Victorville man driving the Honda had been traveling northbound on 50th Street and the Audi was heading southbound on the same road. The man was taken to hospital to be treated for lacerations over his whole body.
Head-on Palmdale Crash Investigation
A police investigation into the cause of the crash went on for at least four hours as investigators poured over evidence to piece together what led to the crash. The initial results indicate that the driver in the Honda will likely be held liable for the collision. A driver may not attempt to pass another vehicle if it is not safe to do so. Also, police will look into whether the negligent motorist crossed over double lines in violation of traffic laws. They could be held accountable for the death of this woman in both criminal court and by a civil wrongful death action. The wrongful death case would be handled by an independently hired personal injury attorney.
Witnesses may contact the CHP’s Palmdale Traffic Department at (661) 272-2400.
