Girl, 14, Killed in Alleged DUI Crash
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif (May 28, 2024) — Rosenda Elizabeth Smiley, 14, of Rialto, died over the Memorial Day weekend when she was hit by a suspected DUI driver on Balboa Boulevard in Newport Beach.
The deadly collision occurred at around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 25th at Palm Street along the busy Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach, according to KTLA 5 News.
Paramedics responded to the scene and located the 14-year-old girl deceased at the scene. The tragic accident occurred about a block away from the Balboa Fun Zone in Orange County
Meanwhile, the driver was a 30-year-old Fontana man identified as Joseph Alcazar. Police questioned the motorist at the scene before arresting him on suspicion of traffic-related homicide. Authorities reported that alcohol appeared to be a factor in the traffic accident.
