Roy Gillespie, 33, Killed in Hughson Head-On Crash on Geer Road
STANISLAUS COUNTY, CA (June 24, 2021) – Roy Gillespie was killed after a head-on crash on Geer Road in Hughson.
The Coroner’s Office identified the 33-year-old Sonora man as the victim of the fatal wreck which occurred on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident happened on June 23 when Roy Gillespie was driving a 2013 Nissan sedan on Geer Road in Hughson. At the same time, a 2005 Chevy pickup truck was going south.
For an unknown reason, the Chevy veered to the right and hit a raised curb. The pickup then crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the Nissan head-on.
2 Cars Collide Near Stanislaus Wildlife Care Center
The California Highway Patrol said both cars overturned due to the impact of the collision. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived on Geer Road and pronounced Roy Gillespi dead at the scene.
The Modesto Bee and Central Valley TV wrote that the accident took place shortly before 2:30 p.m. The two vehicles crashed near the Stanislaus Wildlife Care Center, just north of East Hatch Road.
The driver of the truck, a 61-year-old Turlock man, sustained major injuries as a result of the wreck. Medical personnel took him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, CHP forced Geer Road to shut down between Hatch and Jantzen roads following the wreck. The cause of the Hughson crash is still under investigation.
