Royal Santos, 20, Suspect in Merced DUI Hit-and-Run Crash Near Elementary School
MERCED, CA (July 10, 2021) – Authorities detained Royal Santos after a DUI hit-and-run crash near Gracey Elementary School in Merced.
Police determined that the 20-year-old man was under the influence of alcohol when the collision occurred on Friday, July 9.
Merced police said Royal Santos crashed into a car in the area of Gracey Elementary School on Northwest Avenue. His vehicle then rolled over upon impact.
The Merced Sun Star and Your Central Valley wrote that Royal Santos abandoned his overturned car following the crash. He soon fled on foot.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found a female passenger of a vehicle involved left wounded as a result of the collision.
2 Vehicles Collide on Northwest Avenue
Medical personnel rushed the woman to a hospital for treatment of a traumatic arm injury. Officials did not release her name and condition at this time.
Meanwhile, police located the suspect in the 800 block of U Street and took him to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
They arrested Royal Santos on suspicion of felony DUI and fleeing the scene of a collision that caused a traumatic injury. The Merced DUI hit-and-run collision is still under investigation.
