2 Dead, 4 Injured in Head-on Crash Panama Lane
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Oct. 23, 2018) – Ruben Berrelleza, 50, of Bakersfield and Gerardo Lopez Moreno, 47, from Arvin, were identified as the two drivers who died in a crash Sunday night on Panama Lane.
The crash was reported near Oswell Street.
Berrelleza was driving a 2004 Nissan Frontier that had been traveling westbound within the eastbound lanes when it collided head-on with a Honda Civic driven by Moreno.
Humberto Jacinto Suffers Major Injuries
Four other occupants who were passengers in the Civic were transported to the hospital with moderate to major injuries, according to California Highway Patrol.
The passengers who were hurt in the collision were 22-year-old Humberto Jacinto who suffered major injuries upon impact. The three others, 46-year-old Cristina Gallardo, 18-year-old Hilario Martinez, and 20-year-old Teodulo Martinez, sustained moderate injuries. All four are Arvin residents.
UPDATE: Flores, 22, of Arvin, later died of his injuries at the hospital.
Bakersfield Fatal Crash Investigation
A forensic examination of the vehicles involved is underway by police. They will piece together evidence and any witness statements to determine fault. It appears at this time that the driver in the Nissan may be responsible for what happened. The investigation will also consist of looking at measurements of evidence left by the vehicles such as point of impact, final resting positions of the vehicles, skid marks, and gouge marks.
We offer our condolences to the families of those who died and hope all those hurt fully recovery.
