Borrego Springs Motorcycle Crash on Shell Reef Expressway
BORREGO SPRINGS, Calif. (Oct. 25, 2022) — Ruben Gutierrez, 18, from Mexico, died in a Borrego Springs motorcycle crash with a pickup truck on Shell Reef Expressway, an off road trail that leads to Ocotillo Wells SVRA.
The fatal crash occurred about 3:31 p.m. on Oct. 22nd, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.
The teenager was riding a motorcycle eastbound on Shell Reef Expressway down the center of the trail. Meanwhile, a driver in a pickup truck was heading westbound on the same trail when both drivers attempted to avoid each other. Unfortunately, they both collided and the motorcyclist suffered major injuries and died at 3:45 p.m. the same day.
Paramedics responded to help the young man, but sadly he died at the scene.
Investigators with California State Parks are working on the case and will determine fault for the crash.
