Bicyclist Killed In El Monte Hit-And-Run Crash
EL MONTE, Calif. (March 24, 2022) – Ruben Vicario, 59, died Tuesday night in a hit-and-run crash while riding a bicycle at El Monte Avenue and Lower Azusa Road in El Monte.
A driver struck the bicycle rider about 8:55 p.m. on March 22nd, according to the El Monte Police Department. The man was riding on his bike and traveling eastbound on Lower Azusa Road. The driver struck him as he reached the intersection at El Monte Avenue, police said.
Ruben Vicario suffered major injuries and died at the scene. Meanwhile, the motorist involved failed to stop and help the dying man. Instead, the driver fled the scene of the fatal crash.
Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver believed to be in a 2019 or 2020 maroon or burgundy Toyota Avalon. The vehicle is likely to have major front-end damage after hitting the cyclist.
