Rudy Mercado, 51, Killed in Stanislaus County Crash on Highway 4
STANISLAUS COUNTY, CA (February 28, 2023) – Rudy Mercado was killed after a head-on crash on Highway 4 in Stanislaus County.
The coroner’s office identified the 51-year-old Copperopolis man as the victim in the fatal wreck which took place on Monday.
The incident happened when Rudy Mercado was driving a Toyota pickup truck west on Highway 4 in Stanislaus County. At the same time, a Honda sedan was going east.
2 Cars Collide
The Honda, approaching a left bend in the roadway, tried to pass a slower-moving vehicle in front. Its driver, Gurjot Kaur, then illegally crossed double solid yellow lines.
As the bend limited her visibility, the 21-year-old Stockton woman hit the Toyota head-on. Both motorists turned their vehicles to the north shoulder to avoid a collision but crashed just west of Dunton Road.
The Modesto Bee and ABC 10 News wrote that the accident occurred on February 27 at about 6:40 a.m. Both Rudy Mercado and Gurjot Kaur died at the scene of the crash.
Meanwhile, CHP forced the westbound lanes of Highway 4 to shut down for a time following the wreck. The cause of the Stanislaus County crash is still under investigation.
