Rufino Canete Fatal Pedestrian Accident Midway Drive in San Diego
San Diego Man, 65, Killed in Crash is Identified
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Jan. 8, 2024) — A truck driver struck and killed 65-year-old Rufino Canete as he was crossing Midway Drive Tuesday night in the Midway District of San Diego.
The deadly crash occurred at around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2nd, between Sports Arena Boulevard and West Point Loma Boulevard, according to the San Diego Police Department and the Times of San Diego.
The San Diego Police Department reported the truck had a green light and was traveling north in the 3800 block of Midway Drive. Meanwhile, the pedestrian reportedly stopped in the center divider to permit traffic to pass before he “continued to cross the street (and) was struck by a northbound Chevrolet pickup truck,” police said.
The San Diego man sustained major injuries and he died at the scene. The San Diego Medical Examiner later identified him as Rufino Canete.
Meanwhile, the driver stopped and cooperated with the police investigation into the pedestrian accident on Midway Drive.
