2 Killed in Violent Crash on Wentworth Street
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (June 21, 2018) — Ryan Blanks, 22, and Weslee Davis, 38, were both killed Wednesday afternoon in a collision between their respective Mercedes-Benz and motorcycle at Wentworth Street and Wheatland Avenue, according to KTLA News.
The crash took place about 1 p.m. in the 10300 block of Wentworth Street in the Shadow Hills neighborhood. The report stated that the motorcyclist was traveling about 70 mph eastbound on Wentworth. The silver Mercedes entered the roadway from Wheatland Avenue into the path of the bike. The motorcycle rider crashed into the driver’s door of the Mercedes in a violent collision that decapitated the rider.
It appears that the motorcyclist had the right-of-way at the intersection. However, police are investigating whether or not speed was a factor. Indeed, there are no traffic lights or stop signs for at least a mile in the area. Local residents have complained about how dangerous this intersection is and have asked for the city to take action. There have been previous collisions at this location due to apparent speeding by motorists along this stretch of roadway.
Traffic Accident Investigation
It is unknown whether one or both of these motorists will be assigned fault for this crash. Sadly, both parties lost their lives, and now the families of the victims will have to pick up the pieces in the aftermath. Among the questions that are unanswered is why the city failed to act and take safety measures to prevent such collisions from happening. The city was on notice about this potential danger, but has done nothing. Residents have asked for traffic lights to help control the intersection.
We offer our heartfelt prayers to the families of both victims.
