Man, 43, Killed in Crash with his Dog, is Identified
LIVE OAK, Calif. (Nov. 19, 2024) — Ryan Fairrington, 43, and his dog were both struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver last week on Seventh Avenue at Eddy Lane in Live Oak.
The traffic collision occurred around 2:46 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The suspect was traveling southbound on Seventh Avenue when he struck the man now identified as Ryan Fairrington who was walking with his dog in the area.
The man and his dog both suffered major injuries and died on the scene. Meanwhile, the suspect fled, but he later turned himself in around 7 p.m. at a police station the same day.
CHP officials Pedro Martinez Urbano, 54, of Watsonville, was arrested on multiple charges including hit-and-run resulting in a death and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail and pleaded not guilty. He was released in lieu of $30,000 bail on Monday.
Finally, the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
