Detectives Ryan Park and Jamie Huntley-Park Killed in San Ysidro Head-On Crash
SAN YSIDRO, CA (June 4, 2021) – A wrong-way crash killed Ryan Park and Jamie Huntley-Park in San Ysidro.
San Diego police identified the victims as the detectives who became involved in a fatal head-on collision on Friday morning.
Witnesses told the California Highway Patrol that a Honda Civic was seen traveling at a high rate of speed. The car was going north on the southbound side of the freeway.
Speeding Wrong-Way Driver Dead After Interstate 5 Crash
At the same time, Ryan Park and Jamie Huntley-Park were riding a blue Ford Fusion south on the Interstate 5 in San Ysidro. The Honda then slammed head-on into the couple’s sedan.
CHP said the Civic burst into flames as a result of the wreck. San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News wrote that the accident occurred at about 10:25 a.m. near State Route 905 and Dairy Mart Road.
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the site near State Route 905 and Dairy Mart Road. They pronounced the two police officers and the wrong-way driver dead at the scene.
Homicide detective Ryan Park, 32, was driving the sedan with detective Jamie Huntley-Park, 32, when the crash took place. The tragic San Ysidro collision is under investigation.
