Sabas Ruiz Galaviz, 60, Killed in Fresno Taco Truck DUI Hit-and-Run Crash
FRESNO, CA (October 19, 2021) – Sabas Ruiz Galaviz was killed after a DUI hit-and-run driver crashed into a Fresno taco truck.
Police identified the 60-year-old Fresno man as one of the victims in the fatal collision which took place earlier this month on October 9.
The incident began when Sabas Ruiz Galaviz was eating at a table near a Tacos El Bello food truck in Fresno. The vehicle was parked near the intersection of Maple and Belmont avenues at the time.
A van approached, accelerated and then spun out of control. Fresno police said the motorist plowed into the taco truck and struck the customer of the business.
Sabas Ruiz Galaviz sustained significant head trauma as a result of the taco truck crash. Paramedics rushed the him to the Fresno Community Regional Medical Center, where he died.
Drunk Driver Crashes Into Taco Truck, Hits Customer
A woman sitting outside the parked truck noticed the vehicle and jumped of the way. She ended up with scrapes and bruises following the accident.
The Fresno Bee and FOX 26 News wrote that the wreck took place at around 6:55 p.m. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the male driver of the van abandoned the van and fled on foot.
They determined that the man was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the truck and Sabas Ruiz Galaviz. Officers soon found and arrested the suspect.
He faces multiple charges including murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. The Fresno DUI hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
