5 Hurt in Crash including Alicio Vasquez, Elida and Michael Barrios
HANFORD, Calif. (June 11, 2018) — Sabrina Vasquez, 46, and Guadalupe Vasquez, 26, both of Selma, were among among five people injured Saturday afternoon following a head-on crash on Highway 43, according to the Fresno Bee.
The crash took place about 3:40 p.m. on June 9th when driver Elida Barrios, 73, of Fresno, reportedly tried to pass a slower-moving vehicle on the highway, just north of Hanford. Her 2017 Nissan was traveling southbound on Highway 43 when it crashed into a vehicle driven by Alicio Vasquez, 45, of Selma, according to the California Highway Patrol report.
Sabrina Vasquez and Guadalupe Vasquez, who were both passengers in the car driven by Alicio, suffered major injuries in the collision and were taken to hospitals. Alicio Vasquez was treated for minor injuries.
Also hurt in the crash was Barrios and her two passengers identified as Michael Barrios, 76, and a 14-year-old juvenile who all suffered moderate injuries.
The report stated that all those hurt were taken to Adventist Medical Center in Hanford.
Hanford Crash Investigation
Police believe that Elida Barrios is responsible for this collision as she allegedly made an unsafe pass and caused a collision with another motorist. The investigation remains open as there were many extensive injuries. It’s unknown at this time whether or not criminal charges will be filed.
