Bicyclist Critically Injured in Sacramento DUI Crash on American River Parkway
SACRAMENTO, CA (June 29, 2021) – A DUI crash critically injured a bicyclist near American River Parkway and Tribute Road in Sacramento.
According to The Sacramento Bee and CBS Sacramento, the tragic accident took place on Tuesday morning. Officers reported the collision shortly after 9 a.m.
The incident happened when a male bicycler rider was traveling on a bike trail on the north side of the American River Parkway in Sacramento.
Police said a vehicle then drove around the trail gates and onto the bike path. In the process, the driver involved struck the cyclist near Tribute Road.
Bicycle Rider Hit by Drunk Driver
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene, just west of the Capital City Freeway overcrossing. They found the victim left lying on the ground as a result of the accident.
Medical personnel rushed the patient to a hospital for treatment of major injuries. His name was not disclosed but officials listed him in critical condition.
Meanwhile, police determined that the motorist was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the victim. They soon arrested him on felony DUI and hit-and-run charges.
Authorities booked the man at the Sacramento County Main Jail. The Sacramento DUI crash is still under investigation.
Officers forced a portion of American River Parkway to shut down following the collision.
