1 Killed, 3 Injured in Sacramento Crash on Interstate 5 Near J Street
SACRAMENTO, CA (January 27, 2023) – A crash killed one person and injured several others on the Interstate 5 near J Street in Sacramento.
According to The Sacramento Bee and ABC 10 News, the tragic accident took place on Thursday night. Officers reported the wreck on January 26 at around 9:30 p.m.
The incident began when a vehicle became disabled in the center divider of the southbound Interstate 5 near the J Street exit in Sacramento.
An AAA tow truck arrived while a Lexus pulled over and stopped behind the tow truck. The California Highway Patrol said a 2004 Toyota approached and then slammed into the Lexus.
The Lexus moved into the center divider and directed traffic while the Toyota ended up stalled in the fast lane. A Ford F-150 pickup truck veered to avoid the Toyota and started pulling over into the center divider.
Several Cars Collide
A 2008 Hyundai failed to notice the Toyota, braked and skidded into the rear of the Toyota. In the process, the Toyota spun out of control and struck the back of the Ford.
Paramedics pronounced the front passenger of the Toyota, a 67-year-old Stockton man, dead at the scene. Firefighters freed the trapped right rear female passenger of the same car from the wreckage.
The 57-year-old Stockton woman sustained major injuries as a result of the collision. The 24-year-old Stockton man driving the Toyota and the driver of the Hyundai, 29-year-old man from Kelso, Washington, survived with minor injuries.
Medical personnel rushed all three patients to hospitals for treatment. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, CHP forced the southbound lanes of the Interstate 5 to shut down near J Street for three hours following the wreck. The cause of the fatal Sacramento crash is still under investigation.
